Dante Alighieri is considered to be the greatest Italian poet of all time. His epic poem Divina Commedia (Divine Comedy) is generally regarded as one of the world’s literary masterpieces. In Italy Dante is known as il Sommo Poeta (the Supreme Poet).
The bust is considered to be one of the finest sculptures if the poet. The face has a strong resemblance to some of the older images of Dante.
