Pierre-Jean de Beranger was a highly productive French poet and songwriter. He was hugely popular during his lifetime. He is described by historians as the first French superstar of popular music. After his death (1857) his popularity faded. Yet some of his lyrics are still sung.
The bust is very characteristic of Beranger: it depicts him with his bald head and a corsage on his lapel.
