Alfred Tennyson, better known as Lord Tennyson, is a much loved British poet. His short lyrics proved to be highly popular during his lifetime. Lord Tennyson became Poet Laureate in 1850. Some of his phrases are have become a part of everyday English; e.g.: ‘Tis better to have loved and lost/ Than never to have loved at all.
